ಜಪಾನ್ ಅಮೋರಿ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮಯ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 11.44 ಕ್ಕೆ 20 ಕಿ.ಮೀ ಆಳದಲ್ಲಿ 6.7 ತೀವ್ರತೆಯ ಭೂಕಂಪ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ. ಜಪಾನ್ ಹವಾಮಾನ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಸುನಾಮಿ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದೆ, ಇದರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಪೆಸಿಫಿಕ್ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 1 ಮೀಟರ್ ವರೆಗೆ ಅಲೆಗಳು ಏಳಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
